Weekly Update 3: big changes are here

Still comitted to weekly updates for this school project and still delivering. So let's get into everything that changed:

  • One color less: As announced in the previous week we completely removed the ability for the player to use a yellow color shield. We belive that this is the best for the game, as it makes it much easier for us to design interesting levels and make sure that all of the color bars are usefull. Speaking of:
  • Color bar rework: We completely reworked the color bars from scratch. Filling them should feel much more natural now. You also don't have to manually activate them anymore, instead once the bar is fully charged, you fire a barage of bullets into all directions that damage all enemies, regardless of their shields. Blue special bullets stun the enemy for a whole 10 seconds, meanwhile the red ones deal explosion and much more damage than normal bullets. Additionally the more filled your color bar is, the more damage you deal with that color. So you don't even have to fill the whole color bar to get stronger by absorbing bullets.
  • Graphics: Our graphic team just finished their first tileset, so might aswell put it to use here. We replaced all of the placeholder graphics from out gamejam prototyp with these new stylized environment.
  • Level overhaul: Let's be honest, the previous levels sucked. And we knew that. Their primary goal was to test out how to make the core-concepts work and feel good, aswell as to test out if our level loader. Since all of that is pretty much done by now, our level designer started to explore more ways to make interesting levels. We got new obstacles for you, like our overengineered moving enemies, aswell as static turrets that always shoot at the same direction. Our design team made 6 new levels for you to play through, which may be far from finalized, however should give you a good idea of where we want to go with this game.
  • Added a bunch of Quality of life changes

That's everything for this week, see you in the next one.
